Last night, word hit the presses that Mayor Gavin Newsom may have had an affair with the wife of his re-election campaign manager.  Make that his ex-re-election campaign manager.  Alex Tourk resigned yesterday, citing his newfound knowledge regarding the old affair as the reason for his resignation.  The affair is reported to have taken place more than a year ago during the time that Newsom was going through his own divorce, although all parties refuse to comment on the news.  See the San Francisco Chronicle / SFGate.com article for details.

What does this mean for Mayor Newsom?  It’s hard to say.   Currently favored in the polls, Newsom’s character may come under attack by voters, although the liberals of the city may decide that Newsom’s work as a mayor is more important to them than his play in the bedroom.  Although, if Newsom fails to get re-elected and wants to stay in the limelight, I know several men in this city who would buy a copy of a Newsom sex tape if one happened to be floating around!
