When I first moved to San Francisco, it was January and my desert instincts were overwhelmed by the vast amount of rain which poured from the sky.  Everyone kept telling me that it was highly unusual for San Francisco to see so much rain (there was a month straight where it rained every single day) but I was convinced that it would always be this way and began planning to make sure that I did all of my traveling back home during the early months of the year which I’d determined were the rainy season.

We left San Francisco late in the afternoon and made it to Reno by evening, taking advantage of the dinnertime buffets and the inexpensive drink prices to get started on our night.  I’d never been to Reno before and expected it to be more like Laughlin than like Vegas but was surprised to find that it has more Vegas flavor than I would have thought.  Sure, it’s not The Strip, but for a small city located just three hours drive from San Francisco, it actually offers quite a bit of activity.

Whether you fly into SFO or into a nearby airport (such as the Oakland International Airport) depends greatly on which airline you are interested in flying and what your destination might be.  Bay Area fans of the greatly-discounted rates offered by Southwest Airlines have had to fly through the Oakland airport for the past few years, due to problems between San Francisco International Airport and Southwest Airlines in the past.
However, such is the case no more – as the problems have been (at least temporarily) resolved and Southwest will be resuming flights through SFO starting in Autumn of this year.  …read more

Lombard Street is famous as “The Crookedest Street In The World”, drawing in tourists from all around the world who huff and puff in exaggerated effort as they climb the hill west of Columbus to see the famous sight.  My apartment is located right at the bottom of this hill, so I get a regular view of the curvy street (which is surprisingly pretty) and the opportunity for regular run-ins with the travelers who are headed up to take pictures of the spot.
