You’ve probably noticed that San Fran Voice has been quiet recently. And your attention to the matter has been appreciated! Rest assured that San Fran Voice will resume a normal posting schedule shortly. We’re undergoing some changes with behind-the-scenes work in order to bring you an improved site. Once we get going again, you’ll get your regular dose of San Francisco music, arts and creativity news.

If you don’t want to keep checking back, you can request that an email be sent to you when the site picks up again. Simply send an email to cmfpublications@yahoo.com with “SFV request” in the subject line. I’ll send you an email as soon as it’s ready. San Francisco Sampler CD Update

As most of you already know, I’m working out the logistics of possibly putting together a sampler CD of music from the city. I received a lot of really great ideas and assistance about the CD from those of you who know more about making music in this city (and in general) than what I know. I’ve compiled that information and will be working on a business and marketing plan to further develop the CD. (If you’re going to do creative things, you should do them right!)

Although plans will be in the works, further developments will be unlikely to be announced before the beginning of 2008. The end of the year always goes so quickly, starting with San Francisco’s favorite holiday (Halloween) and continuing through all of the other holidays. Combined with the fact that I’m going to be taking the first non-working vacation since … week, since I bought my first laptop … for just a few days in December and am also going to be wrapping up my third book before the end of the year … things are just going to be too crazy to commit to this project before then.

But it gets first priority in 2008 and you’ll definitely be kept updated on the status of the project. At that time, I’ll work in close contact with the people who gave me such terrific starting points and we’ll see what we can make happen! Thanks for your interest in seeing this project go forward!

San Francisco YouTube Pick Of The Day

In honor of the unofficial holiday taking place today, the San Francisco YouTube clip is an informative video about an arrest which happened in 2002 as a result of confusion about medical marijuana issues. The clip is an interview of a women who has turned herself in for growing medical marijuana and is about to go to jail.

San Fran Voice usually loves the silly and strange YouTube videos, but every once in awhile, we want to take a look at the serious. This clip touches on issues tangential to gay marriage which are directly affected by the fact that same sex marriage is not legal and discusses one marriage which took place during Newsom’s famous period of marrying gay couples in San Francisco.

SFO Sees Southwest Airlines Once Again

Whether you fly into SFO or into a nearby airport (such as the Oakland International Airport) depends greatly on which airline you are interested in flying and what your destination might be. Bay Area fans of the greatly-discounted rates offered by Southwest Airlines have had to fly through the Oakland airport for the past few years, due to problems between San Francisco International Airport and Southwest Airlines in the past.

However, such is the case no more – as the problems have been (at least temporarily) resolved and Southwest will be resuming flights through SFO starting in Autumn of this year. I’m happy to hear it since SFO is my preferred airport for the area – it offers more amenities and more general options than its nearby counterparts and is easier to reach on BART than the other airports.

News: Mayor Newsom’s Affair

Last night, word hit the presses that Mayor Gavin Newsom may have had an affair with the wife of his re-election campaign manager. Make that his ex-re-election campaign manager. Alex Tourk resigned yesterday, citing his newfound knowledge regarding the old affair as the reason for his resignation. The affair is reported to have taken place more than a year ago during the time that Newsom was going through his own divorce, although all parties refuse to comment on the news. What does this mean for Mayor Newsom? It’s hard to say. Currently favored in the polls, Newsom’s character may come under attack by voters, although the liberals of the city may decide that Newsom’s work as a mayor is more important to them than his play in the bedroom. Although, if Newsom fails to get re-elected and wants to stay in the limelight, I know several men in this city who would buy a copy of a Newsom sex tape if one happened to be floating around!
