Recommended Event: Open mic @ Voodoo

Recommended Event: Open mic @ Voodoo

Black Magic Voodoo Lounge is a quirky little place that’s got that neighborhood bar feel where it’s better to be a local but okay to be an outsider. The main thing that the spot is known for is that it’s smoker-friendly. Yep, since it’s owner-operated, they get around the smoking laws and you can puff to your heart’s content if you so desire. But what it should also be known for is the Sunday open mic night. Tomorrow, there should be a full or nearly-full set there by Bludstream (AKA Fernando Paez), the local alternative rock musician who puts a …read more

Recommended Event: In Rare Form

Recommended Event: In Rare Form

You know two of the In Rare Form guys because you’ve read their interview here on San Fran Voice. If you’ve forgotten, they’re a psychedlic rock jam band with divergent musical influences and a penchant for experimentation in their sound. They’ve been hard at work in the studio as of late and haven’t been playing out around town much, but they’re going to bring a halt to the hiatus tonight at 12 Galaxies. Kanvus, Tim Segreto and Shantytown are also all playing at this show which starts at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 for those of you who are already ready …read more

The Hairbrain Scheme On Tour

Remember Ima Robot?  That’s the indie rock band that formed years ago when two of the guys who played with Beck banded together and did their own thing together.  Well, they may have been quiet on the scene but they haven’t been boring; they’re still playing and they’re heading out on tour.  And the reason that we care about this
