What Do You Want From San Fran Voice?
If you read this blog regularly (or semi-regularly even), you know that there are certain things that are always on the site. Every day (up until the last couple of days), there are YouTube videos about San Francisco and a quote about the city. There is also often an interview with a local artist or music. Sometimes there’s a review of a local CD, a suggestion to go to a recommended event in the city, or travel-like information about local venues and neighborhoods.
But is this what you want from your San Fran Voice?
One of the major goals of this site is to be locked in to the heart of the local creative community and that is best done by finding out what you want and working on it. I’m working on some changes to the regular content of the site and I want your input. So, help me out. Following is a short list of the things already on the site and the things that could be on the site. Rank them according to what you want to see, let me know if you have very strong opinions that something should go or something should stay, and tell me if you can think of something else that isn’t on the list and should be.
1. YouTube video related to San Francisco
2. San Francisco quote of the day
3. Interviews of local artists / musicians
4. Reviews of CDs and live shows
5. Recommended events
6. Profiles of live music venues in the city
7. Profiles of local galleries
8. Calendar of local live music shows
Leave your rankings or notes as a comment here. This way, SFV isn’t just my site. It’s your site, too.

This is a great site for the local arts community. I think it has a real niche in showing videos with a San Francisco theme, but original content is what really gives the site a personality, so interviews with, and reviews of, local artists not covered by the other press outlets here in SF is a way for the site to have its own editorial voice. The alternative newspapers have their own editorial preferences in the arts, as do certain websites. It’s up to San Fran Voice to define its own editorial sphere/angle. I think discovering voices not already receiving tons of coverage is always a service to local readers. Another cool thing could be an article on local music labels, or recording studios that have put out several Bay Area artists’ work.
I agree with Kate; there are so many “unsung” (sorry for the pun) vocalists, instrumentalists, singer/songwriters, etc. in the Bay Area who really deserve more notice, more gigs, more attention paid to their talent. It would be great to have a blog dedicated to vocal arts in the SF Bay Area. I thought of doing it myself but I am working too hard at my day job, trying to support my singing habit (which certainly does not pay for itself)! Good luck to you!!! Clips from video clips from live shows would be great. It’s hard to figure out if a band is good from just an interview. I would love to have an immediate place to check them out live. Also, what would be cool is a maybe an “insider tip” to SF. Something that even locals don’t know – a cool place that hasn’t been touched (well, after its been on your blog, it probably receive a bit more traffic). I love this blog!
