Deli Magazine’s March Band of the Month: Bear on Bear

In case you were wondering what the results of Deli Magazine’s SF “Artist of the Month” poll were for March …  the results are in and the Bay Area band that won the hearts of the Deli’s voters was Bear on Bear.  Technically, these guys aren’t a San Francisco band because they’re from Santa Cruz, but we can go ahead and claim them in terms of bands making music in the Bay Area that San Franciscans apparently want to hear.  They don’t play in the city again until the end of May, but you can catch them online or over in Santa Cruz.

Bear on Bear has recently released their first EP, which you can order from them for just $5.  Their MySpace page has the details.  When you get to that page, you’ll also (of course) get to listen to a selection of their music which has an indie rock flavor laced with a European pop sound.  The vocals on “Orange Blossoms” have that alternative reverberation in them reminiscent of the old Seattle grunge scene but the supporting instrumentals give the song an entirely different edge, retaining only a tinge of that dark angst from the older music.  For a more pop-type pick, click on “Better Than Nothing”.

Check back later this week for the San Fran Voice opinion on the April Deli SF picks – or head to the Deli voting site to check them out now.
