San Francisco Bands: The Music Lovers
The Music Lovers are a San Francisco band with an English voice, a history of recent releases and a connection with the Margaret Cho “Sensuous Woman” performance … so if you don’t know these guys, you ought to. At their full strength, The Music Lovers are a six-piece band with an indie pop rock sound that blends the dreaminess of music from the 1960’s with the edge of 1990’s alternative and propels it forward into 21st century California sound.
The most recent album release, The Music Lovers Guide For Young People from 2006 is about to be surpassed by an impending release of Masculin / Feminin. The video for the song of the same name can be seen here; note that it was directed by Margaret Cho who fell in love with the band’s sound and invited them to join her in creative collaboration. One of the songs off of the CD, “Fashion Editor” can be heard on The Music Lover’s MySpace page … what you’ll find when you compare this single with the others available on the site is that there is more complexity to the instrumentals, there is more pizzazz to the vocals and there’s generally a more bouncy feel to the music.
The Music Lovers are said to love their San Francisco fans. They played recently at Café du Nord and can be caught again on March 30th at The Hemlock Tavern. If you love them back and you hurry up to show it, you can vote for them as the March Artist of the Month for Deli SF Magazine.
