San Francisco Bands at SxSW 2007

SxSW 2007 kicks off this weekend in Austin, TX and I’m happy to say that San Francisco is well-represented there this year.  There are ten different San Francisco bands playing this week as part of the SxSW festival.  Additionally, four Oakland bands and one band from Berkeley are helping to hold up the East Bay representation in Austin this week.

Check out the San Francisco (and surrounding area) bands that are sharing Bay Area music with the world at this week’s festival:

  • Apache  brings the punk rock glam sound from San Francisco to Austin.
  • Birdmonster rocks it!
  • Brian Glaze featuring Joe Haener from Gris Gris is the first of the performers to represent Oakland.
  • DJ Stef has been giving the DJ world a woman’s spin since the mid-80’s and is no newcomer to SxSW.
  • Facing New York is the Berkeley rep at SxSW this year.
  • Hank IV will be back after SxSW to play at The Knockout.
  • Honeycut perform during the SxSW KIDS label showcase
  • Imperial Teen – Playing co-ed indie pop together since 1995
  • Minipop brings the right balance of sweet and spicy to indie rock.
  • Persephone’s Bees takes the best of Oakland to the heart of Texas.
  • Scissors for Lefty bounces from SF to SxSW.
  • Street to Nowhere is making SxSW just one stop on an ongoing tour.
  • Thriving Ivory - check out “Flowers for a Ghost” playing on the myspace page.
  • The Time Flys representing Oakland and San Francisco’s own Birdman Records
  • Trainwreck Riders spark up SxSW with rockabilly-plus from SF

The RedGorilla Music Fest free shows are happening at the same time in Austin and I think several of the bands are representing there as well.  The Bay Area has a terrifically fun, diverse, dynamic music scene … way to go us on sharing it with the music world at SxSW!
