San Francisco is a hot bed for amazing music of all kinds. Following you’ll find a list of the shows happening in the city this week that you might want to check out. Throughout the week, you’ll get reviews of anything I’ve seen – or feel free to comment here on anything you check out!
• Monday 2/5/07
o Fiction Like Candy is playing an EP Release party at 12 Galaxies at 9. Self-described as “a punked-up mid-70’s Joni Mitchell” with “a band that crosses the heart of Motown and Classic Rock” and compared by others as sort of like Cowboy Junkies, this band is reported to put on a not-to-miss show.
• Tuesday 2/6/07
o Move your hips to Latin beats at the Elbo Room with Santo Diablo and Macabea.
• Wednesday 2/7/07
o The Roots at The Fillmore
o The Dont’s at The Bottom of The Hill
• Thursday 2/9/07
o Stockholm Syndrome (also playing Friday) at The Independent for a benefit concert.
o Foxtail Somersault at Rockit Room
o Stellastar at Popscene
o Tricycle Records Showcase at Rickshaw w/ The Hooks (who have the hot Irish accents), Union Trade and If Nobody Knew, described primarily as playing dark rock for an all-ages crowd.
• Friday 2/9/07
o Spazmatics at Grant and Green at 9. This eighties cover band made up of “nerds who rock” puts on the most high-energy show filled with constant fun music that I’ve ever seen live.
o Glen Phillips (from Toad the Wet Sprocket, if you remember them) at Great American Music Hall.
• Saturday 2/10/07
o She Wants Revenge and Brazilian Girls at The Grand at Regency Center
o Sparklehorse at The Fillmore
• Sunday 2/11/07
o Play your own music at Open Mic Night at The Cellar.
